New Carpet

After installing new kitchen vinyl earlier this year we have been back and forth on whether or not to get new carpet throughout our house, too. It was pretty old and dirty, but livable. On the other hand, we thought that when we get ready to sell this house it would show a lot better with new carpet. And when all was said and done we felt like it was a good investment and better to get it now and enjoy it while we're here.

As with most of our house projects, it wasn't just a matter of calling up and ordering carpet. Ha! Is it ever that simple? We have had the squeakiest floor boards that have just about driven us crazy the last couple years. The worst place being right near Olivia's bedroom door. We felt like Indiana Jones, stepping carefully between squeaks as we went thru the house trying not to wake her up. For the last week and a half leading up to our carpet installation, we've been taking all of our furniture out to the garage and Richard and his Dad have been removing the carpet/pad and screwing down the floor boards. It took a lot longer than we anticipated because the problem areas were everywhere rather than just a few spots!

It felt too much like we were moving.

Let us just say that it was with heavy hearts that we put big ugly screws into the once beautiful hardwood floors. Watching HGTV and walking thru old houses where this had been done had always made me cringe and feel a bit sad. The floors had been great in their day and it would have been nice to refinish them. But in the end, they had to go.

We could not have done it without Dad and his help!

And we also couldn't have done it without Olivia and her patience!

Signing Time helped, too! I'll admit, she watched WAY too much TV this week!

 In with the NEW!

This is what I wanted to do {roll around on the carpet} but my belly is getting a little too large for that right now. Olivia had to take care of it for me!

We absolutely love our new carpet! But I have to say, it's a toss up between what we love more, the carpet, or the squeak-free floors!

  1. New carpet is the best! I can't wait to move and get really cushion-ney carpet! Sure thankful for my kid-friendly carpet now though...with everything we've had on it! :)

What a project. Good to have it over.
