Happy Fourth!

We had fully planned on going to see the fireworks here in Brigham on the fourth, even though it would interfere with Livi's bedtime. It had been a very long day, she was exhausted and so were we, but we were still going to attempt it. As the evening wore on we began to wonder if it would be such a good idea after all...would we even get to enjoy it? While we were in the middle of our debate, she went from fussy to a giggly hysteria in less than thirty minutes and we still had several hours to go. We decided for her sanity, as well as our own, to just put her to bed. And if we were so inclined, we could get her up later and go see the fireworks then. But let's be real, who readily wakes their sleeping baby once they've gone down for the night? I do not. And fireworks or no, I couldn't do it.

We were kind of bummed until we came up with a brilliant compromise. The roof! While Liv dreamed her cares away, we enjoyed the fireworks from our rooftop. In fact, we had quite the show from neighborhoods in all directions! Obviously it didn't give the full effect of actually being there and having your rib cage rattled by the explosions, but we also didn't have to deal with a sleep-deprived baby the next morning. A win-win in my book!

I'm grateful to be an American and to have such freedoms that allow me to sit out on my roof with my husband, in the middle of the night, not a care in the world, while my baby sleeps peacefully in her crib. God bless America!
