Hemangioma...GESUNDHEIT!
About a month ago we started noticing that the blood vessels on Olivia's right upper eyelid were getting really large and redder than normal and then before we knew it there was a little lump there. It kept getting bigger and we were worried that it could be something serious so last week we got her in to see the pediatrician. He told us he thought it was a hemangioma [hi-man-jee-oh-muh] which is basically a benign vascular tumor. We were referred to an ophthalmologist just to be sure and were given the same diagnosis. So here's what we found out:
- It's going to get worse (bigger) before it gets better.
- Although it will grow over the next year or so, it should eventually get better and go away on its own (but she may be 7 or 8 before that happens).
- It could effect her eye development so we are going to need to watch it very closely.
- After doing a little research and taking a look at some pictures on the internet we realized this is nothing compared to some and it could be a lot worse! And for that we are grateful!!

Bless You.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you figured that one out. Lucky it isn't worse and hopefully her eyesight will be just fine.
